  I created an email address and domain through Google but wanted to build a website through WordPress. What are my options? Do I need to transfer my domain to WordPress?

  Hi there,

  “WordPress” is just the name of a piece of software. You can use that software directly with Google on one of their hosting plans, you can use it with another host like Bluehost or Pressable, or you can use the modified version that we host here on WordPress.com.

  So what you need to do with your domain will depend on the hosting provider you choose to go with.

  If you want to keep everything with Google, contact their support to find out the process for installing WordPress on their servers and connecting the domain to that site. If you do that you’ll be using the open source WordPress software, and you can find general support for that software here:

  Or if you want to go with us on WordPress.com, go to https://wordpress.com/start/site and follow the steps to create a site. Select one of our paid plans, and then you can either transfer the domain to us (provided it’s at least 60 days old) or you can leave the domain at Google and simply connect it over to us.
