  I already have a domain name, and at the appropriate time will move it to a new web provider (WordPress is one of 3 possibilities). In the meantime, does WordPress allow me to build a site without transferring it over?

  Hi there,

  When you create a site with us we give you a free WordPress.com subdomain to use for as long as your site exists. You can build your site at that address until you decide to add your domain, and you can in fact even keep your site at the free address permanently if you prefer.
