  why do I have to transfer my domain or get one from workpress before i can use wordpress

  I think the idea behind transferring your domain to WordPress is just to make things easier because you would be able to manage your domain and website from the same spot.

  Hi there,

  You don’t need to transfer anything to use WordPress.com. When you created your site we gave you a free address, http://maxwellelectronics.wordpress.com/, which is yours for as long as you have your site, and you can build a fully-functional website at that free address.

  You only need a custom domain if you don’t want to use that free address.
