  If you just want to buy a domain from us, you can do so from https://wordpress.com/domains

  Register a Domain Without Creating a Site

  However, if you wish to use your WordPress.com site at http://lawnmode502299173.wordpress.com/ with a custom domain, that will require one of our paid plans.

  Kokkieh does that mean that I can connect the site to it later or would I still have to pay for a site?

  If you want to use your domain with the WordPress.com site, the WordPress.com site needs to be on a paid plan.

  But otherwise you can use the WordPress.com site for free – all plans on WordPress.com are optional, and you only need to buy one if you specifically want the features included in a particular plan.
