  I need to know how to unlock my domain and transfer it.

  Hi there,

  What is the domain that you are wanting to transfer? Also are you trying to unlock and transfer a domain you have hosted on WordPress.com or are you trying transfer a domain over to WordPress.com? There is no domain or site currently connected to the account you are contacting us from.

  We have directions on how to transfer a domain hosted on WordPress.com to another registrar here:

  But, I just want to verify that the domain is hosted with us here.

  Hi Darnell, Thanks for getting back to me. The domain is Avalanche!HastySearch.com. A friend bought me the domain and I pretty much ignored it until now. I wrote a book by that name so that was why she bought it for me. Now I’m trying to sell the book and hoping the domain is still available. It was started on WordPress I believe but the person helping me with the website is having a hard time finding it.

  The domain is Avalanche!HastySearch.com

  That is not a valid domain – domains cannot contain punctuation characters like !.

  Can you please double check the domain?

  I’m a bit confused. Do you already own the domain and want to transfer it to/away from us, or are you hoping to register it? A domain can only be “available” if no one currently owns it.

  If you already own the domain, then it is definitely not available, but you don’t need it to be either – as the current owner of the domain you can transfer it anywhere you want.

  To do that you’ll need to log in at the provider where the domain is currently registered, unlock it, and request a transfer code for the domain.

  The link staff-doublebassd gave above explains how to do that for domains registered on WordPress.com, but to follow those steps you also need to be logged into the WordPress.com account that owns the domain. pattiburnett01 that you’re using to post here does not own any domains.

  There does exist a domain, avalanchehastysearch.com (without the !), but that domain is currently registered with Dreamhost.com. If that’s your domain, please contact them for help unlocking it and obtaining a transfer code.
