  I have bought a .com domain from Godaddy and linked it to my wordpress account. There were days when this was free, what changed you?

  Domain Mapping is not free on WordPress.com. You do need an upgraded plan to connect the domain. Those details are at https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  Let me know if you have any questions about the plans.

  Perhaps you are thinking about the open source WordPress.org software. That is free to use (we also have free sites available). With that option, though, you would be paying a hosting provider.
