Domain
-
Our old website domain is held by wordpress. We want to create a new website using the same domain. The person who created our last site used computer language to operate things and he is no longer available to change the site for us. So, I was just going to make a new site that I would be able to manipulate myself. Not sure how to move forward as we need the domain to remain the same.
Any advice would be helpful!

Hi there,
What is the domain you’re trying to use?
The account you’re using to post here is only three weeks old, and has never owned any sites or domains with us.
If you’re trying to use a specific free WordPress.com address that already exists, only the current owner of that address can transfer it to someone else, or if it’s been deleted, only the user who deleted it can request that we restore it, and only for 30 days after deletion.
If it’s a custom domain, likewise only the current owner can transfer it to someone else, or request that a cancelled domain be restored, provided that’s still possible at this point.
We cannot give you ownership to a domain or access to a site that belongs to someone else under any circumstances.

We own the domain – bethmessiahsynagogue.com
I’m just trying to redo the website in a manner that I, a person who knows very little about computer lingo, could update and maintain. The person who created the website for us originally is no longer available to help me work things out and we can’t have a website that we cannot manipulate!
I started a second account because I thought I could just scratch the first website and transfer the domain to the new page – but I am unsure how to do so without messing something up. lol
I am not trying to take someone else’s domain…

Hi there,
I checked and the domain is not hosted with us, but rather Bluehost. You’ll need to reach out to them in regards to getting the domain pointed/transferred over to your new WordPress.com site hosted with us.
So, if you have domain you want to use at WordPress.com that you have hosted elsewhere, you have the option to map or transfer that domain.
Whether you map or transfer your existing domain, you will need to purchase a WordPress.com plan. The difference is who you want to host your domain. If you transfer the domain to WordPress.com, we’ll manage the domain. You’ll pay for the mapping and the plan here (domain is included within the plan price for the first year).

But, if you keep the domain at your current host and map the domain to WordPress.com, you current host will continue to manage the domain and you’ll need to pay them for hosting your domain.
