Domain

    Hello,

I’d like to make my own website (small business website, nothing huge, no online shop) and have a few questions for you.

Unfortunately it is not possible to buy .de domain over WordPress so I’d do that with GoDaddy. I have read topics regarding domains, since I’d like my domain to stay at GoDaddy (not transferring to WordPress) and use it from there, but there’s a lot of things to pay attention..

Is there any chance to give me tips what should I do when I map my own domain at WordPress.com (such as domain mapping and anything else what should be useful or I’ve missed accidentally)?

Second thing, I saw at GoDaddy a WordPress Hosting Package, would it be significantly helpful to buy that one?

Third, how it goes with SSL certificate, can I buy it from you or I have to use GoDaddy’s one?

I’m planning to buy your Premium package so take this in consideration with all things above. To summarize everything I wrote again:
    1) Domain registration by GoDaddy and mapping it in WordPress.com, things to pay attention for, tips and advices..
    2) Hosting by GoDaddy, advices..
    3) SSL, advices..

Please be kind to help me out, I have a feeling my head will explode from a ton of pages I just read..

    Best Regards,

    Milin

  • Hi –

Thanks for writing to us. You’ll need a personal plan or higher to connect that .de domain through mapping. These plans include your access to our live chat support team, the domain mapping and hosting fees for the year. There’s not a limit on traffic and we don’t have any “extra or hidden” fees.

If you want to host at WordPress.com then you don’t buy the hosting plan through GoDaddy — What they’re selling is hosting for the open source WordPress.org software. That’s the other version of WordPress. It’s more hands on and technical.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I will buy the premium plan at WordPress.com in order to properly do mapping with a .de domain.

Have already looked for other providers as well and found out one at one.com. They offer domain, hosting, ssl certificate and a ‘1 click Wordpess’ plan which automatically connects my future domain with my wordpress.com made website.

Have you heard about it? They told me when I use that option there’s no need to do domain mapping steps here at wordpress.com.

  • 1 click WordPress refers to the installation of the WordPress software. That is not what we do here. WordPress.com is a managed hosting environment – your plan includes an SSL as well.

I would suggest that you register the domain and then map it to WordPress.com. We offer 24/7 live chat support, so folks are available to help you when you run in to questions. That’s not the same for all hosting providers, and many of them offer little to no WordPress support (for the installation version).

    Does that help?
