Domain and Monitization

    Hello there,

    1) I own http://www.bmskarate.com and want my blog to be hosted on that website. BUT, the wordpress blog is fantastic and I want to keep it’s settings etc. Is that how it works? How do I transfer?

    2) Is there a standard chart to show how much traffic is needed to break even from monitization? Also, are there different settings/tools to choose what ad’s or how many you want on your blog? I’m ready to upgrade but want info.

    Hi there,

    So you want your current website to remain at that domain, but your WordPress.com blog to appear at that domain as well? There are two options I can think of:

    1) Create a subdomain at your domain provider like blog.bmskarate.com, and map that to your WordPress.com site – this will require a paid plan on the WordPress.com site. Then add a link to that subdomain in your website’s menu. It will still be two separate sites, with each its own design, but they’ll be under the same domain.

    2) Embed your WordPress.com site’s feed on your website. There are plugins that allow you to do this, and will dynamically pull in your posts from the WordPress.com site into a page you create for that purpose on your website.

    As for traffic, I’m afraid not. The online ad system (not just on WordAds but with most ad networks) work similar to the stock market, with advertisers bidding in real time on ad slots available on your site when someone loads it. How much any advertiser bids depends on many factors, including the location of the visitor, their browser history and presence of tracking cookies in their browser, what other advertisers are bidding and how much those advertisers are bidding, the type of content on the site, the time of year, etc.

    So there’s no direct correlation between number of views and amount of earnings, and the best I can do is to tell you you need thousands of views a month to make a meaningful income from advertising on your site, and traffic coming from the US typically makes much more than traffic coming from the rest of the world.

    You have no control over which ads show on your site, but depending on your theme you might have some measure of control over which ad slots are active on your site for ads to display in.
