Domain cancellation

  I want to cancel my domain at WordPress so I can use it at SquareSpace. Since they don’t take transfers, I would have to cancel it here in order to register it there. But when I check the option saying I want to get on with the cancelation, a small box says that I might lose it forever. Will the domain be available for purchase again or not?

  Hi there,

  Canceling a domain means you give up ownership of that domain name. The domain name may not be released immediately, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to register it again in the future. We have more information about cancelling domains here: Cancel Domain

  Please note that letting a domain expire can also result in a long wait for the domain to become available again elsewhere: Domain Expiration

  Since Squarespace doesn’t accept transfers, I’d recommend keeping your domain registered here (or with another domain registrar) and point it to Squarespace instead: http://help.squarespace.com/guides/mapping-a-domain-general-instructions
