Domain Cancellation and Availability

I recently started up a WP with a custom domain, hosted through wordpress.com. After using the site a little bit, I decided I’d rather go with a hosted solution for some added flexibility and control. I’ve canceled the custom domain, 60hzhum.com, and the blog entirely. Is there any way to know when that custom domain will become available again for external use? I decided to go this route so I could have all of my services taken care of by one shop, rather than two. I did not receive an email confirming deletion of the domain either, so I suppose if it’s not going to become available again soon I would be open to having it re-enabled through this WP account.

If you’re wanting to transfer your domain, you should never cancel it at your current host because once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.
If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.
If you recently registered your domain, you cannot transfer it to your new host for 60 days – but, in the meantime, you can point the nameservers of that domain from WordPress.com over to your host:
