Domain change not working – please help.

    Hi all,

    I am in charge of the official Hughes Hall Boat Club page, currently found on http://hugheshallrowing.wordpress.com .

    I would like to change the domain to http//hugheshallboatclub.wordpress.com , since ‘Hughes Hall Boat Club’ is the correct and official name of our boatclub within the University of Cambridge and all other social media and website sub-pages use this term. However, when I try to change this, it says “Sorry, that site is reserved!”.

    When I try to open http://hugheshallboatclub.wordpress.com in my browser, it states “hugehshallboatclub.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
    Do you want to register hugehshallboatclub.wordpress.com?”.

    Therefore, I believe that there is a technical issue that could be resolved easily with the WordPress team’s input. There may have been a registration of a wordpress website called hugheshallboatclub.wordpress.com which was, however, never worked on. It could have been created by a former boatclub president but we are not in touch with all of the former presidents, webmasters etc. If you could help us identify and solve this problem, I will be extremely grateful.

    There is an existing WordPress.com account using that name:
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/hugheshallboatclub/
    Consequently the address you’d like to use has been reserved for the owner of that particular account. You need to track down whoever in your club created that account. I’ve added a modlook tag to ask if a member of staff could reply to you and offer any further advice.

    Hi Yuri,

    As @themagicrobot already mentioned, this address is reserved by another WordPress.com account.

    What I’m suggesting is instead of using a .wordpress.com address to register a custom domain name (e.g. hugheshallboatclub.com) and use that instead.
