Domain Crash

I was under the admin account for the website http://www.girlsrockasheville.org which was being run by the wordpress website builder. We were in the process of switching website builders so in order to dettach the wordpress site from our godaddy domain I changed the domain (under settings) to http://www.girlsrockasheville.wordpress.org in efforts to separate it. This made the website get messed up and the admin panel to disappear. It keeps linking me to the wordpress official site whenever I hit the home button on my site. I have tried to undo this but was unable to change it.

  • Hi there,

It sounds like you have a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software. You can’t just change the domain for a self-hosted site in settings. It needs to be changed in your hosting control panel, as explained here:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

It’s also not possible for you to use girlsrockasheville.wordpress.org. To do that, you need to own the WordPress.org domain, which you don’t – WordPress.org doesn’t work like WordPress.com where you can register a free subdomain for personal use.

We have no access to that site as it’s not hosted on our servers. Please contact your hosting provider, GoDaddy.com, for help with this. If they can’t help you, you’ll need to post in the self-hosted forums where the users will have experience in how to fix this:
