Domain did not auto renew. Now $18 renewal not an option.

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to renew my domain name, which was set up for automatic renewal, but apparently did not renew. Which I don’t understand why. I did not receive a payment failed notice or anything. The $18 renewal option was in my cart and I submitted payment info, but now it no longer seems to be an option. What would be my best options for renewing my domain? I’d like to continue paying $18 yearly and not choose a $2.99 monthly plan, etc. Any help appreciated! Site is theeastsideagent.com

  • It appears that auto renewal was disabled back in January of 2016.

    Hey there,

I checked with our registrar and theeastsideagent.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.

    Thank you Darnell!

Yes, my account was set up for automatic renewal. When this happened a year I asked Support if I was good to go and if there was anything else I had to do to avoid this problem in the future.

Is there a way to avoid that $80 fee? As I don’t believe I was given any notice that the transaction didn’t happen. I received many, many emails that said this:

“theeastsideagent.com is about to be automatically renewed on January 29, 2017.

You will be charged $18.00 for this renewal later today.

You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder.”

So I would prefer not to pay for that fee. Also, why is renewal $26?

Thanks so much for your fast reply!

    Best,
    N

    Hi Darnell,

Would like very much to keep the domain and work this out ASAP.

Please let me know my options. If I could pay the $26 without the $80 fee. And also why the renewal rate has been raised. I was under the impression that I didn’t have to do anything further to secure the renewal.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi Darnell,

If paying the fee is our only option then we will do that. So, yes, please get that process started. However, since we were in auto pay and weren’t made aware that was disabled we’re not sure why we would have to pay that fee.

    Thanks

  • Hey there,

A few things. Renewal alone for you will be $18, not $26. It would be $26 if you have private registration and I checked your account and you do not.

Secondly, I looked into your account and am not sure how auto renewal was disabled, but we will waive the fee for you. I will contact our registry partner and see if we can get the site back up and restored for you.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

  • I just contacted our registry partner and should hear back from them within 24 hours. I’ll keep you updated!

    Thanks!

    Thank you so much, Darnell!

  • Good news!

We were able to retrieve and restore theeastsideagent.com back to your account! =)

I have sent you a manual payment for the $18, but you should be good to go!

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

Thanks Darnell. Is there anything else I should do to get the site back up and running? Contacting my host, etc.? Or does it just take time?

  • Hey there,

it is already back up and running! theeastsideagent.com was just not set up as your primary domain, but I updated that for you. Check it out and let me know if everything looks okay.

    Thanks!

    HI Darnell,

All seems to be good, except we are missing all of our plug-ins. Like Statistics, Yoast SEO, etc. Is there a way to retrieve those so we don’t lose that data or should we download all the plug-ins again?

    Thanks!

  • Do you have a self-hosted WordPress.org site as well? Because the site that I attached the domain to is a WordPress.com site and sites hosted there do not have installed plugins. Did you have the domain pointing to another site outside of WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, it should be a wordpress.org site.

  • Do you know where it is hosted? You’ll need to point the domain’s nameservers over to the site hosted elsewhere in order to use the domain with that site:

    Bluehost. I’ll try to repoint.

    Thanks!

Hmm. This does not seem to work for me. Any advice?

  • Hey there,

So you pointed the nameservers over to Bluehost and nothing is working?
