Domain in overlap from squarespace to wordpress

    Hey there! I am currently with Square Space, but have been told that it would be in my best interest to switch to Word Press. My current domain is associated with Squarespace and my account is renewed with them in March. I would like to stay with them until then, but am curious if I can begin to work on my site in this overlap time before I switch. Is that possible, or can I not begin an inactive site without a domain attached?

    Hi there,

    When you create a site with us we provide you with a free address at the WordPress.com or one of a number of .blog subdomains. Your site will be fully accessible at that domain, so you can start working on it right away. The only time you absolutely have to have a custom domain attached is if you want to use third party plugins or themes on our Business Plan, but we can help you out with a temporary domain for that if needed.

    I also want to point out that if you were to transfer your domain to us, you won’t lose any of the time you’re already paid for it to Squarespace. The domain will transfer to us with its current expiry date, and it will be renewed for another year on our end once the transfer completes.
