Domain in redemption

    Hi all,

    I started managing our web after it had already been set up on Squarespace and I thought the domain had been transferred to Squarespace when the host switch was made. It wasn’t. Now it looks like our domain is in redemption and I’m not sure how to get it out? I’m aware that it will be a lot more expensive, but I can’t even find links to go the more expensive route. I don’t see our domain even listed under ‘domains’ on wordpress, just the .wordpress.com domain.

    I checked with our registrar and golaosteria.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

    Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
    the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

    Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

    I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.

    I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore golaosteria.com to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back. If I am successful, I can send you a manual payment request form for you to repurchase the domain.

    Just checking in to see if you have heard back from the registrar. Sorry to be a bother. It’s just pretty urgent, as we’re a restaurant and customers can’t make reservations with our website being down.

    I have not heard from our registry partners yet. They are pretty good at responding within 24 hours, so I should hear from them by the end of today. Once I do, I’ll be sure to let you know, ASAP.

    I have heard back from our registry partners and we were able to retrieve and restore the domain back to your account!
