Was the upgrade purchased with a credit card that you have access to or did the former employee purchase the upgrade themselves?

We chose to get the former employees login. Do you recommend we renew the domain first then transfer or transfer to then renew? We’re concerned there might be a lag in the transfer, which might prevent us from renewing before it expires in two days.
