Domain issue

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi guys

Have a client who took out a website design package. The company she bought this from have gone bust and never gave her domain logins WordPress logins etc. So wondering how I go about recovering this domain

I have all her official documents to verify ownership of the company name etc.

There seems to be no way to contact WordPress privately regarding this

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

It sounds like your client has a self-hosted site using the WordPress.org software, correct? If so, we’re not able to help you either – we have no access to WordPress sites running on other companies’ servers.

Your client will need to contact the domain registrar and the hosting provider for their site (not necessarily the same company) to gain access to those accounts, and once they have access to the hosting account they should be able to reset the admin password for the site by following the instructions here:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

If the site is on WordPress.com, please provide me with the address, and I can see if there’s anything we can do, but I can’t make any promises.

    Hi Kokkieh

Thanks so much for the response

Ok the domain is http://www.peluqueriabelladonna.com now as you will see the registrar is wildwestdomains, however they insist that they only act as a connector for you guys. I explained the situation to them they from looking at the whois records you guys were hosting the domain etc

So I have been around in circles with them

    Cheers man

Sorry I was logged in with another account I have

    Sorry for confusion

  • Okay, that domain is registered with us, owned by the username, glamoramasite, who also owns the site the domain is connected to.

The only way we would be able to transfer that site and/or domain to your client’s account is if they are able to also prove that they own the glamoramasite account. Having a business name that’s the same as the domain name does not prove an ownership claim on the domain or on the free WordPress.com address.

All domain names on the web are regulated by an organisation called ICANN, and their regulations regarding domain ownership are very strict. Specifically, only the person who owns a domain can transfer it to someone else, which in this case is only the person logged in as the glamoramasite username. There literally isn’t any other way to transfer the domain, so we won’t be able to help unless your client can prove ownership of the account itself.

To prove ownership of the account, we’ll need one of the pieces of verification indicated here:

    Account Recovery

    Hi there

Really appreciate your time with this

Ok so here lies the problem. My client bought a package from a company called blissbooker who have now gone out of business
    https://ridizi.net/why-did-a-spanish-groupon-co-founders-beauty-salon-aggregator-go-into-bankruptcy.html

And she has all the documents to prove the worked on the web etc.

Is it possible to see if that account is tied to bliss booker

    Thanks

  • The only information we obtain from someone who creates an account is a username and an email address, so there’s no way to tie a username account to a specific organisation.

If it’s absolutely necessary to use that particular domain, I would recommend registering it with a drop-catching service, or finding a domain registrar that lets you place it on back-order. If this person has indeed gone out of business I wouldn’t expect them to renew their domain in a couple months when it expires, and if you have it on back order you at least have a chance to get it back once it’s deleted after expiration.

But otherwise it might be better to just switch to a different domain, and create a brand new site from scratch over which your client has full control from day one. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but it’s the only advice I can offer in this case.
