Domain issue

  Hey there, I originally bought a package from WordPress but have decided to do my website slightly different so I have bought a package from Go Daddy which includes an email address. I am still going to be doing my website through WordPress, but I am wondering how I can get my original domain name back as I cancelled the plan over a week ago. I was wondering how I could get this domain released so I can add this to my GoDaddy account and continue to create my website through WordPress?

  Hi Abby –

  Typically when a domain is cancelled quickly after purchase it becomes available again after 5 days. We are already passed that point, the domain was cancelled on January 5th. My guess is that you just missed that little window. No worries, though.

  What we can do is restore the domain to your WordPress.com account. Otherwise, it is going to be months before you can purchase it again.

  Then, you will update the name servers on the domain to point it to your new hosting provider. Once the domain is 60 days old you could consider transferring it to a different domain provider at that point. But for now, restoring the domain and updating the name servers or DNS settings is the way to go.

  Write back and let me know if that all sounds good. You’ll want to contact your hosting provider and find out what name servers to set. I’ll send a manual payment for $18 to cover the domain registration since we have already refunded your initial purchase.
