I have a website that will come up on Oct 6. I wanted to link my current bodheguard.wordpress.com blog to the domain name blog.bodheguard.com . I paid to map the domain and blog.bodheguard.com is active but my current bodheguard.wordpress.com blog is not showing up. So my blog is down. Can someone help with this

Did you follow the instructions here when setting up your Domain Mapping:

Particularly about the CNAME settings.

The website has a blog button and it directs you to blog.bodheguard.com. I simply just wanted to change the domain name of bodheguard.wordpress.com to blog.bodheguard.com Is there a easier way to do this? I am still unclear why I cannot toggles between domain names.

In order to set up subdomain mapping (which is what you are trying to do), you need to follow the instructions I liked to above:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/
That is the only way to make blog.bodheguard.com point to your WordPress.com blog.

is there anyway to use the bodheguard.wordpress.com domain and then I can switch to the blog.bodheguard.com domain later. I thought I could toggle between both.

You can toggle between both. You just need to complete the initial setup of mapping blog.bodheguard.com before it will work.
To use bodheguard.wordpress.com as your site’s domain, log into your WordPress.com Dashboard and go to Store–> My Domains and make sure that you have bodheguard.wordpress.com set as the primary domain.
