domain issues so can’t access my site
-
I keep receiving this notification when trying to access my site. My domain is active and up to date and I have set it to primary. I don’t know what else to do.
“Something unexpected happened while accessing this website. It looks like it doesn’t have an active domain connection upgrade to link the requested domain name to the WordPress.com site.
If this is your domain name and it has recently stopped working, it’s possible that your plan or domain may have expired. Please log in to your WordPress.com account and review the status of your plan and domain. “

Hi @donnahaymakeup! I completely understand how alarming it is to see your site down, especially when you know for a fact that your domain is active and fully paid for.
The error message you are seeing usually points to a very specific issue: a disconnect between your domain (your web address) and your hosting plan (the WordPress.com upgrade that allows you to use a custom address).
On WordPress.com, custom domains require an active paid plan to stay connected. Even if the domain itself is fully paid for and active, if the underlying hosting plan expires, the connection breaks and triggers this exact error.
Here is how to check and fix this:
- Log into your WordPress.com account and click on your profile icon in the top right corner.
- Select Purchases from the menu on the left.
- Look at your list of active upgrades. You will likely see your domain listed as active, but you may see a “Plan” (like Personal, Premium, or Explorer) listed as Expired.
- If you see an expired plan, simply clicking Renew on that plan will automatically restore the connection to your domain and bring your site back online.
If you look under Purchases and see that your plan is currently active, let us know! That might mean the domain was accidentally mapped to a different free site in your account, and we can help you route it back to the right place.

Hi @donnahaymakeup! Thanks for letting us know about this.
I just checked your domain, and I didn’t find any issues with it. However, I’ll be reaching out to you via email shortly so we can take a closer look and assist you privately from there.
