Domain Mapping

Restore, the domain mapping. I am the new pastor at our church wordpress / godaddy website. The former pastor set me as an administrator. Is that the same of owner? Can I upgrade the domain mapping? Is domain mapping a fee in addition to the fee for Premium plan? Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
For what domain do you want to restore mapping? Your account has never owned any upgrades on WordPress.com, and the site you indicated, http://jcoppage.wordpress.com/, does not have any upgrades attached to it.
The former pastor set me as an administrator. Is that the same of owner?
It is not. Administrator refers to the rights you have on the site. An admin can do basically anything, including delete the site, but is not the owner.
Can I upgrade the domain mapping?
When it comes to upgrades, being an admin doesn’t matter, nor does being the site owner, as only the UPGRADE OWNER can make changes to an upgrade, like cancelling, renewing or transferring it. So to renew an existing upgrade you’d need to be logged in as the username that owns the upgrade.
Is domain mapping a fee in addition to the fee for Premium plan?
The Premium Plan includes one free domain mapping upgrade, so if you have a Premium Plan in your account, you can add one domain mapping for free on the same site where you have Premium. However, both Premium and the mapping upgrade need to belong to the same account. If you own Premium and someone else owns Mapping, their mapping doesn’t fall under your plan’s free domain.

Great response. Very helpful. The domain name is frieschurch.org. The church is Fries Memorial Moravian Church. The Wordpess site is friesmoravian.wordpress.com
The previous pastor, Rev Moore, has deleted her role on the site. I’m hoping that we can transfer ownership to the church’s email address.

Okay, that domain mapping belongs to the username, pastorkellymoore. Normally we’d require that user to give permission for us to transfer the upgrade, but in this case as the upgrade has already expired and that user is no longer a user on the site, I can transfer it to another user on the site to renew.
Do you want the upgrade transferred to the frieschurch username that owns the site itself, or to another user on the site?

Kokkieh, I am an admin on the Fries website and am working with Pastor Jeff. My username is nigelhenbest. Please transfer the upgrade to my user. Also, can you explain why the mapped domain has expired (on 3/17/2017) when the domain itself doesn’t expire until 2/28/2018.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Nigel,
I’ve transferred the mapping to your account.
However, I notice the frieschurch username account owns a Premium Plan on this site. If you transfer the mapping to that account, it will renew as part of the Premium Plan. This does not happen if the plan and the domain are in separate accounts, which is probably how this situation happened in the first place.
I would recommend instead transferring the mapping to that account, but let me know what you want to do. If you want to keep the upgrades in different accounts I can manually renew the mapping for you, but you’ll be in the same situation next year with the mapping not renewing automatically.
Also, can you explain why the mapped domain has expired (on 3/17/2017) when the domain itself doesn’t expire until 2/28/2018.
The domain mapping upgrade here has nothing to do with your domain itself. The domain’s expiration date is determined by when the domain was registered with GoDaddy.com, while the mapping upgrade’s expiration date is determined by when you bought that upgrade from us.
Renewing the mapping also doesn’t renew the domain, and vice versa, as it’s two completely separate services for which you’re paying two separate providers.

Kokkieh,
Please go ahead and transfer the mapping to the fries church account.
Will that cause the domain mapping to be renewed so that our site is operational again?
Thank you.

Okay. The mapping is now in the frieschurch account, linked with the plan, and renewed. If you clear your browser cache and go to the domain your site should load.
Please keep in mind now that to renew the plan on that site you’ll need to log in via the frieschurch account. I see the Premium Plan on the site expires in July, and it doesn’t have autorenew enabled. Reminder emails will be sent to that account’s email address before the plan expires, and that account will be able to add payment info to activate automatic renewal and/or manually renew the plan, which would then also renew the mapping for an additional year.
Let me know if you have any further questions about this.
