Domain mapping //

    Dear All,

I was asked by a client to revamp the design of their website, it is a huge website where they list all the products they have with a detailed description. And each product is linked to the website where it has to be purchased. First of all, I want to know if its possible to do it with wordpress or are we limited ? Second question is that they already have a domain name and i need to map it here, and i don’t want to send an unprofessional email by asking them that i need the contact of the old developer. I also want to know if its going to be company name.wordpress.com even if i choose the second package ? the 8 euros per year . Thank you for the help. I appreciate it

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I note that this thread has been tagged for Staff, but it might be worthwhile for you to read the support guide on the differences between WordPress.com (where we are) and standalone WordPress https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ as well as reread the WordPress.com Terms of Service https://wordpress.com/tos/ in order to make an informed decision about which platform is best suited to your client’s needs.

All upgrade plans on WordPress.com include a domain credit which can be used towards purchasing a new domain name or for mapping a domain name you already own.

  • Hi there,

And each product is linked to the website where it has to be purchased.

Is there a particular reason it has to work this way? We do not allow sites that exist only to drive traffic to third-party sites, so this doesn’t sound like it would be acceptable on WordPress.com. But a site on the Business Plan would be able to use an ecommerce plugin like WooCommerce which will allow you to list and sell all the products directly on the site with no need to link to a store-site elsewhere.

Second question is that they already have a domain name and i need to map it here, and i don’t want to send an unprofessional email by asking them that i need the contact of the old developer

In order to map a domain here you need to change the domain’s name servers to point the domain to us. That can only be done at the domain registrar where the domain is registered. Transferring the domain to us so we become the registrar will also require that you first access the owner account at the registrar where the domain currently is. We cannot help with that, and you’ll need to sort it out directly with your client, or with whoever registered the domain for them.

All WordPress.com sites have a free address that we provide. If you buy or connect a custom domain that is laid over the free address, so visitors to the site will not see it, but it will still exist behind the scenes, as that is the address where the site is actually hosted on our servers.
