Domain Mapping

For using my domain that I registered somewhere else, if I want to map it to my wordpress website, why am I required to buy a WordPress.com Premium – annual subscription? I simply want to map my existing domain to my wordpress website, nothing more.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

The domain mapping upgrade is part of all the WordPress.com plans and therefore you need to purchase one if you want to map a domain.

If you don’t want to purchase the Premium plan, you can purchase the Personal which is more affordable.

Here is the Plans page where you can select the plan you want:

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thank you for the reply. I was not aware that a Personal Plan would allow for domain mapping as well. When I went to the wordpress admin site, specifically: My Site > Domains > Add Domains > Already Own a Domain > Transfer to WordPress.com > Payment Method, rather than it allowing me to choose my plan, it automatically selected the Premium Plan, which made things kind of confusing.

Nonetheless, I am glad that my question was answered. If there are any other questions that I may have I will let you know.

    Hi thebiosa,

Trying adding the Personal plan from the Plans page first, then add domain mapping from My Sites > Domains > Add Domain. You should then see the Personal plan in your cart instead.
