Domain mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to buy domain mapping service with a domain I already own, but the sign in screens keep taking me around in circles, asking for a ‘site name’ when I’ve already entered the domain. It’s a .top domain, but I think there’s something wrong. Is it just traffic?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Are you trying to create a new site or add the domain to your existing site, http://bgs247365.wordpress.com/?

If the latter, go to My Site ->Plans and purchase the plan you want. Then you’ll be able to add mapping afterwards by going to My Site ->Domains ->Add and selecting the option to use a domain you already own.

If you’re creating a new site, please make sure to also select that option on the domains step.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the reply. I’ve tried those steps and it’s still taking me around in circles.

    This is what I’ve done:

    1. I log in, click on My Site, choose Create Site

    2. I fill out the questions about the site at “Step 1”

    3. At “Step 2” I choose “Use a domain I own.”

    4. That takes me to the screen where I pick “Buy domain mapping”

    5. I then enter my domain name (which is a .top domain), click Add

    6. I then get an error message that says “please enter a site name.” I thought I did that already? This is still “step 2.”

Other times I’ve tried this, the menus will take me back to “step 1”, where I do the whole thing over again only to get the same error message. I’ve even tired picking the options where I’d buy a domain through WordPress and I get stuck at this point. Sometimes I can get to “Step 3” where I pick my plan, but no matter which one I pick, it takes me back to an earlier step. Even if I fill everything out, I keep getting this error message and/or it keeps going backwards and running me in a circle.

I’ve tried this in incognito windows, with adblock turned off, on my work and home computers, and on my phone in desktop view. Nothing.

So there’s something on WP’s end that’s not working.

  • Hi there,

Can you please first create a free .wordpress.com address (https://wordpress.com/start/) and add the domain mapping afterward (https://wordpress.com/domains/add/use-your-domain/)?

If this still doesn’t work or you have more questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help!
