Domain mapping

  I don’t understand why wordpress wants to charge me for a paid account for me to simply point my existing www domain to the wordpress platform. I’m already paying for hosting with another company. I already have a url connected to wordpress where i am not paying anything to wordpress. Have they changed things so to use your own domain with wordpress you have no option but to pay them a monthly (i.e. annual fee) now?

  Domain mapping is included with the plans mentioned at https://wordpress.com/pricing/ It’s not possible to only use the mapping on by itself.
