Domain Mapping

I’m new to this stuff – Should I transfer my domain to wordpress or just map it? What are the pros and cons? Also, I don’t want to lose my current free wordpress site … or do i have to start from scratch when I upgrade?

Hi there, no you won’t be starting from scratch everything on your site will still be the same if you use a custom domain on your WordPressdotcom site. Just the address will be different and existing content is redirected seamlessly. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/
In order to use a custom domain, you will need to upgrade your site to at least the Personal plan https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and then keep that plan active.
If you map your domain from your current registrar, your annual plan will include mapping and you’ll need to renew your domain registration at your domain registrar. If you transfer your domain to WordPressdotcom, the domain registration will be included for the first year but from the second year, your plan and your domain renewal will be separate payments.
The Pros are having everything in one place. Can’t yet think of any Cons other than needing to go through the domain transfer process itself. https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
Hope that helps but let us know if you have any other questions after reading those support guides.
