    Hi Corinne,

I removed that domain mapping and added credits to your account that you can use toward purchasing the WordPress.com Premium plan. (The credits will be automatically applied when you get to the checkout page.)

If you decide you’d rather have a refund, just let me know and I can issue that instead. Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Thank you Rachel! I see the credit is there, but when I try to check out it still says it’s a balance of $99. I was trying to use paypal… should I just use my debit card instead?

  • Unknown's avatar

If it’s applying the credits correctly when you try to pay with your debit card (and you don’t mind paying that way), please go ahead and do that. I’ll check with our team to find out why the credits aren’t being applied when you try to use Paypal.

Thanks for letting me know about that!

    Hi again rachel!

I tried to use my debit card and it said it would be 86, but charged me the full amount… Can you refund my card please?

    Thank you,
    Corinne

Ack, sorry about that, Corinne! I just refunded the extra $13 you paid for that mapping. I’ll let our team know that something wonky is going on with our credits system.

    Thanks again Rachel!

One more thing (hopefully)… It says my upgrade is active, but I can’t even install plugins like jetpack or my themify theme. Does it take time for the upgrade to take effect or am I missing something?

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Corinne,

The WordPress.com Premium plan doesn’t enable features like plugins or installing your own themes. Those are features of self-hosted WordPress sites using the software from WordPress.org, and aren’t available for sites hosted here at WordPress.com. You can read about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you’d like to learn more about that.

Here are the features included in WordPress.com Premium:

However, you don’t need to install Jetpack on a site hosted here — that plugin adds WordPress.com features to self-hosted blogs, so all those features are already baked in to your site here. :) If you have any questions about that, please let me know!

Oh shoot Rachel… I think I did the wrong thing. I wanted to do what I did to my wakeandbake.com site, but this isn’t it. I’d like to cancel my premium membership and re-figure out how to host my own site with wordpress.org (I already have hosting)… Any help with this would be fantastic. I’m sooo sooo sorry for the wild goose chase :(

No need to apologize, Corinne. :) I canceled that Premium plan and refunded it, so you’re all set from this end.

You can head over to https://wordpress.org/ to get the instructions for setting up WordPress with your own host. They also have a guide to installing WordPress to help you with that.

If you run into any trouble or have questions about the installation process, the folks in the WordPress.org forums can help you get up and running with that. (The support staff here at WordPress.com doesn’t have the access to help with self-hosted sites, so those forums are the best place to get help if you have questions about that.)

This should get you headed in the right direction, but please let me know if I can do anything more! :)
