Domain Mapping Issue
-
I have recently bought a domain on names.co.uk and believe I have mapped it to my wordpress site. I took the steps to map it as outlined on the wordpress support site but I not 100% certain I have done it correctly.
At the moment, on some browsers, I type in my domain (www.anastasiawalker.co.uk) and my wordpress site comes up (which was originally http://www.anastasiawalkertherapy.wordpress.com). On other browsers just the original ‘holding site’ of the domain I bought comes up.
There is no consistency on this and I wondered whether someone could kindly check to see that the wordpress site is mapped correctly,
I have also tried to change my domain email address however there is a message under Email Settings that I believe tells me that it has not been successful?
“Email
This domain currently has custom mail servers defined in its DNS settings. This means that WordPress.com Email Forwarding is not available for this domain, and that you should manage your email with your email provider.
The email servers for this domain are:
athena.hosts.co.uk.
hermes.hosts.co.uk.”This message comes up even though I have changed the MX DNS Records to those mentioned at Names.co.uk. Just to confirm, the MX records show athena.hosts.co.uk and
hermes.hosts.co.uk.Any help you can provide is hugely appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Hi there,
I went to your site, and found that it was loading properly as seen in the screenshot below:
It can take some time to propagate. If you find that it is still not loading properly, can you please try clearing out your cache and cookies using the guide below?
As for your email records it can also take some time to propagate. Is everything working ok? I checked your records and it looks like it was entered in properly if those are the correct records.
Please note that if you have your own email host (which would be why you add these records) you will not need Email Forwarding. If you prefer to use our email forwarding then you will need to remove those records.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Many thanks for your detailed response- much appreciated!
I have cleared the cache and browsing history but the following problem persists:
If I type anastasiawalker.co.uk the site works fine
If I type http://www.anastasiawalker.co.uk the site doesn’t workI’ve made sure that the www is included in the DNS records but it’s been a few days now and I still get to the holding page with www…

Hi there,
I’ve made sure that the www is included in the DNS records but it’s been a few days now and I still get to the holding page with http://www…
Please remove that because WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from all URLs. Any traffic to http://www.anastasiawalker.co.uk will be redirected to anastasiawalker.co.uk.
Redirecting the first version of your URL to the second version helps to ensure that search engines index your site properly.
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Ok thank you- I’ll remove that CNAME entry, however that doesn’t quite get away from the fact that the www entry did not forward to the anastasiawalker.com page…
Thank you for helping- is there any way you could change the entry for me as I’m still a bit confused as to how to go about it!
-
Hi there,
I see that you added quite a few CNAME records – specifically autoconfig.hosts.co.uk. and fwd3.hosts.co.uk.
Is there a reason for this? Please let me know!

These we’re listed on the DNS records for my domain at names.co.uk
I had understood that these all needed to be copied over. I think I really need someone to take a look at them to check I’ve done them correctly.
Appreciate the help! Thank you so far

Ok thank you so much! When I type either WWW or withut the site routes to my domain.
Appreciate your advice.
The other think I need to understand is the gmail mapping of my domain. I have tried with Google Plus but it seems to suggest I need to pay for it? all I want is my email to work as per the domain I selected – what is the best way to do this?
Thank you

Have you looked into the Email Forwarding feature we provide? It is the simplest way in my opinion and you wouldn’t need to add any custom records.
Take a look at the support guide and see if it’s right for you. The setup takes a matter of seconds as well. Just a note – in order to add this you will have to remove your email custom records so make sure this is what you want to do as your email with your host will be down.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Hi there-
Basically my email currently is not working and I think it’s due to the mx servers I changed. I spoke with my domain at names.co.uk and they said that it is only wordpress who can help me as the name servers are pointing at wordpress. So first of all I need to work out why this email does not work anymore. Secondly I would like to make sure that I can send and receive messages from my new domain through the likes of gmail or the apple mail app.
I understand that email forwarding only allows you to receive the email, not send from it.
Hope that’s clear and thank you once again!

Basically my email currently is not working and I think it’s due to the mx servers I changed. I spoke with my domain at names.co.uk and they said that it is only wordpress who can help me as the name servers are pointing at wordpress.
So all we need are the custom records from your email host and I can add those for you! Sometimes it can take a couple days to propagate. So please keep that in mind.
I understand that email forwarding only allows you to receive the email, not send from it.
So you can receive and send, but your email recipients would see your original email address when you reply back. For example if you forward say (email visible only to moderators and staff) to (email visible only to moderators and staff), when you reply they will see the gmail email.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Hi there – thank you again for coming back to me!
So… Looks like my emails are now working ! I just want to see whether I can set up my mail on something like mac mail – but since this is nothing to do with wordpress I won’t put you through having to explain it all. I’ll do some googling and find out.
Appreciate your help
