Domain mapping payment

Hi there,
I created a website a few months ago (thecometeride.com) and paid for domain mapping for the site at £11 for the year. Now I’ve just started creating a new website and it looks like I have to pay for a premium wordpress account ($99 for the year) to get domain mapping for my site. Does anyone have any idea why/when this change happened and if there’s any way to map the domain without having to pay for the premium account?

Domains are no longer available for purchase or mapping individually. They are included with WordPress.com Premium. This change has been made as we work to offer the best combination of value and performance for users while still offering a completely free product for those who do not wish to purchase any upgrades.
A great way to go if you are not interested in WordPress.com Premium is to look into setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org site through a hosting provider such as Bluehost, GoDaddy, or Pressable.
