Domain Mapping Question

  I’m renewing my wordpress site but I don’t think I should be paying for “Domain Mapping”. How do I know whether I should be paying for Domain mapping or not, and if not, how can I make the necessary changes in payment processing?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi Jacob, if you’d like to keep your domain name childrenofthefallen.org, then the cost is $18 for another year of registration.

  Domain mapping just means that the domain is pointing to your WordPress.com site. The cost of mapping is included in your $18 domain registration fee.

  Thank you for the explanation. My confusion is here,

  I am paying for wordpress.org as I am registered with bluehost. So if you can rap your head around this:

  -I registered with WP.com with my bluehost services
  -I routed my WP.com registration to my WP.org services

  Ideally, If I had known what I was doing I would have just registered with WP.org from the start which would not have required the confusing network, correct?

  My question now would be, is there anyway to undo this confusion and set it up the way it should have been from the start?

  Hi Jacob, if your site is no longer hosted here on WordPress.com, you can feel free to transfer your domain to another registrar. Domains registered through us can’t be renewed without the mapping portion.

  Transferring your domain to another registrar shouldn’t affect the content of either your WordPress.com site or your self-hosted site.

  Your comments, likes, etc. won’t change if you transfer your domain to another registrar.
