Domain Mapping / Transfer

    Hi there, I previously bought a domain here in wordpress. Unfortunately, I can’t continue on with the cost so I decided to cancel it and delete my domain and my site. But then as I was trying my domain on other registrar it still says my domain is unavailable. And when I access the site it says something like the mapping upgrade not found. Please advise what should I do?

    Hey there,

    You canceled the domain within 5 days of registering it, so it should be available again soon. Once a domain name is deleted by the registry at this stage, it is immediately available for registration by any registrant through any Registrar, and that happens shortly after the 5 day grace period.

    We can immediately restore the domain for you within that 5 day period, but after that we no longer have control over it. So, depending on where you want to register the domain (with us or elsewhere), you should decide ASAP on how you want it re-registered. You can always point the domain over to your host from WordPress.com until 60 days of registration hits (where you can transfer the domain anywhere you please). That will at least guarantee you will get it back without any potential complications. Let me know.

    Hi! Thanks for your reply. I would like to transfer my domain to hostgator. What steps do I need to make for me to still get my domain (itscopona.com) ? What details do I need to provide?

    Hi there,

    Just a correction on the info provided above – I see you originally bought this domain in 2018, and we cancelled it at your request on 24 September. So this domain will not be released in five days, but only after around 80 days, and after it has gone through the redemption process, same as an expired domain:

    So if you want to continue using it the only option is to restore it to your account.

    As your last renewal payment for the domain was refunded, I’m sending you a link via email to pay for that again.

    Once we receive your payment we can restore the domain to your account. We will also need to restore your deleted site, itscopona.wordpress.com, as a domain must be connected to a site on WordPress.com for you to access its settings, like the transfer settings.

    Once everything is restored you’ll be able to request a transfer code to transfer the domain to Hostgator. A domain transfer takes around a week to complete, and once that’s done and the domain removed from your account, you can safely delete the WordPress.com site again.
