Domain mapping vs. transfering Domain
-
I bought a domain on ipage and want to use wordpress to create the page. When I tried to use wordpress through the ipage website, I didn’t see an option for upgrading to a premium plan. The only options I saw were to purchase a page design. When I logged into wordpress I had two options — transfer the domain or map the domain. What is the difference exactly? Is there a price difference and will one make my website slower than the other?

Hi –
Thanks for getting in touch. Neither option is going to affect your site performance or loading times. I’d suggest reading over these pages to decide which option is best for you.
1. Domain Transfer: this options moves the domain registration to us and away from ipage. The domain needs to be 60 days old to pursue this options. https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
2. Domain Mapping: this options points the domain to WordPress.com but it stays registered at the original source. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
