I want to use a different domain that I already own but it won’t let me connect or transfer at all. I am using the free version but I have paid for my domain so surely I should be able to use it regardless, even if it is redirected? Been very unimpressed with the lack of support from WordPress in providing info on domains and web hosting.

Firstly, I’m happy to clear up any questions that you have about our service. We are not a traditional “web host” but a managed platform for where we take care of all the things that you would normally take care of for yourself if you have a site with a traditional provider — software updates, malware scans, server config, login protection, backups, in-house support, etc.

We do not offer the option to connect your domain to a free site, but you can upgrade to our Starter plan, which does include domain connection as well as some other useful features: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
