  My website name right now is myhomeonlineinfocom.wordpress.com and I need a shorter name. Do I get it here or from the hosting company? Sometimes when you click on this name, it gives the security alert and other times it works fine.

  You can register a domain from within your account at WordPress.com by visiting https://wordpress.com/domains

  Alternatively, you can also register a domain from an external registrar and then map it to your WordPress.com account, but for that you will need to have an active Premium/Business upgrade on your site.   As for that security alert you mentioned, could you provide more details?

  However, I did type www. before my name – I think this is the problem. When you do it without the www. it takes you to my site.

  The “www” part could be the issue. I actually found a very good explanation by a staff member in an old thread about this issue. It talks about trying to use a secure protocol (https://) but I think a similar reason applies for using “www” as well.   All that said, I tried visiting www.myhomeonlineinfocom.wordpress.com and did not run into this issue. So you could perhaps try clearing your browser’s history/cache/cookies and see if that helps resolve the issue at your end.

  Hi @jemd1948, yeah you’ll want to leave off the www. Usually though our system will redirect you automatically to the version without www. Is that not happening for you?
