domain name

I already have a domain name on go daddy paid for for two years. I have no website through them, but I am not sure if word press does hosting or if I will need to take what I create here and host it there, so I don’t know what to do with the question on domain transfer.

  • Howdy :)

WordPress.com will host your site. This is the same for our free and paid plan subscribers. The hosting is included.

There’s 2 options to move your domain to WordPress.com.

    1. Transfer it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
With this option the domain has to be 60 days old. WordPress.com takes over as the registrar and everything related to your site is in one place.

    2. Map it: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
With this option the domain would remain registered at GoDaddy and they’d help you point it to WordPress.com. Each year you renew the domain registration from GoDaddy and the mapping from WordPress.com.

Neither option is permanent, so don’t fret too much on it. You will need a plan on the account in order to connect the domain, regardless of the option chosen. The plans are at https://wordpress.com/plans/ and I’ll be happy to answer all of your follow up questions.
