Hello! I am helping my grandmother work on her site and she wanted to change her domain to say just colorchoiceconsulting rather than the colorchoiceconsultingllc that it currently is. She didn’t realize you could just edit so she made a whole new site with that name last week. When she realized that she could edit it she deleted that site (on monday) and is now trying to edit the one that is live to colorchoiceconsulting. However it says that it is already in use, even though she just had it and deleted it, and released the name. Can you help me figure out why it says it is unavailable when she deleted the site she made with that name to make it available to edit this one?

I still can’t change the domain site from colorchoiceconsultingllc to just colorchoiceconsulting. All of the work we’ve done is on the colorchoiceconsultingllc site, but I want the domain name to be WITHOUT the llc in the domain name. I also have a domain name called colorchoiceconsulting.wordpress.com, but there is no work done on that. It’s a blank slate. Do I have to delete this domain name in order to use it on the site that has all the work done on it? (I already did that once and it still kept saying “domain name already in use – even though I delete it. Do I need to wait 30 days or something in order to use it again???)
Please advise.

However it says that it is already in use, even though she just had it and deleted it, and released the name.
Deleting a WordPress.com address does not release the name. It permanently disables it and removes it from our system.
A site address change can only be made to a new address that has never been created before at all. Once an address is registered, it’s impossible to change another address to that one, and deleting it won’t help.
What is the address you deleted? Both https://colorchoiceconsultingllc.wordpress.com/ and https://colorchoiceconsulting.wordpress.com/ work fine for me – neither has been deleted.
If you want to change the address from A to B if you’ve already created address B, the only way to do that is to manually move your content from one site to the other by exporting/importing.
