Domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I purchased a .com domain name a little over a year ago and just cancelled a renewal on this because I understood that the primary domain would then revert to a wordpress.com domain name. However, the site is now no longer available. Could you confirm my options for getting it back up and running? Thanks.

    Thanks
    Cat

  • Hi Cat,

    I assume you’re speaking of havingchildrenukphd.com?

Deleting a domain causes your site to revert back to the free WordPress.com address, yes, but only if you had the domain pointed to your WordPress.com site.

It looks like you had this domain pointed to us, and your site is loading for me as it should at the free address, https://havingchildrenukphd.wordpress.com/

If you mean you type in the domain havingchildrenukphd.com, and you don’t automatically get taken to the free address, that’s what should happen. We can’t redirect a domain we don’t control, and no one visiting your custom domain will automatically get taken to the free address. You no longer own that domain, so you can no longer control where it takes people.

But your site can be accessed by typing the free address into your browser directly.

    Hi Kokkieh,

Thanks for this helpful response. When I’ve been typing the free address in my browser, it has been reverting automatically to the .com address and then taking me to a page saying the domain is parked. However, when I’ve entered the free address on another device I’ve been directed to the site in the same way you have. Is there a way I can access the site from my main device?

If I wanted to reclaim the domain havingchildrenukphd.com at any point going forward would that still be an option?

    Thanks
    Cat

This is probably happening because your old address is still cached in your browser. Clear your browser’s cache and try loading your site again:

It is still possible for us to restore your domain at this time. All you have to do is purchase a plan. Please note that since the domain has expired we might not be able to restore it in a little while. You can read more about the domain expiration timeline here:
