  I already own my domain name and wanting to build a new website using wordpress, if i use the mapping option can my other website still be up and running while I create my new website with wordpress? I do not want my other website shut down.

  You do not have to set up Domain Mapping in order to start building your WordPress.com site, that can be done later.

  You best bet would be to set up your new website on WordPress.com using a ________.wordpress.com URL and then once it is completely ready, set up Domain Mapping to point your existing domain to the new site.
