  Hi! I’m just getting started with Word Press and blogging. I’ve already registered a domain name with GoDaddy. I’m trying to keep my costs down, especially because I’m new to all of this. What’s the difference between keeping my domain name with GoDaddy at no additional costs or moving it to Word Press for $18? Thanks in advance. Sherry

  Hi Sherry –

  The main difference is that when a domain is transferred to WordPress.com we take over as the domain registrar. With that option, all of your site-related things are in one place. That’s a big benefit for some folks as both your hosting (us) and domain registration need to stay active in order for the site to work.

  In order to transfer a domain, it has to have been registered at the current provider for 60 days. I don’t think yours would even be eligible for a transfer based on the fact that you just signed up for it.

  I’d just proceed with the mapping since it won’t cost you anything extra. Write back if more help is needed.
