  I have an existing domain which I want to retain. Can I build my site with a new domain name then transfer the site into the existing name when I am ready to go live with the new site.

  Hi @cheshirerestoration, absolutely. You’re welcome to create your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

  I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
  https://wordpress.com/plans

  Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can map or transfer the domain.
