Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
All About Domains http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.
You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here if you already own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Ok, thanks! So if I just registered, I should wait the 72 hours and it will appear “.com” without the “wordpress,” then, I guess… Tks, MHN

I believe so, at the store, the domain name I thought I purchased was still available, but is that just because it hasn’t appeared yet? I didn’t purchase again… When I enter my page in a few days will it be “.com” minus the “wordpress”?
-
Yes that’s what domain mapping results in provided you took all the steps required to implement domain mapping.
There is no domain mapping upgrade for mhncreative.com. If you would like to use this domain you will first need to set up domain mapping.

It does not seem the purchase went through. I will flag this for staff, who can sort out the domain issue. A couple of people have had this problem recently.

@mhnoller-
Hi there,
I’m sorry, but I could not find any charges on your account. I did a search of the domain as well and found that it hasn’t been registered.
Did the transaction go through in your bank account? Please let me know and I’d be happy to take a further look.
Cheers!

Can you please clarify something for me.
For $13.00 a year I can redirect my current domain to a WordPress site by updating the DNS details on my domain registrar.
However, do I then have to pay $99 a year for the Premium WordPress upgrade to make my domain appear as my WordPress URL, or can I have that function with the basic WordPress package (and pay $13.00 a year for the re-direct)?
-
@brokensea-
With the Premium upgrade domain mapping is included, so you wouldn’t have to pay the $13/year.
A domain registration and/or domain mapping is included in Premium, but of course it is up to you if you want to use a custom domain. If you prefer using the .wordpress.com domain that is fine as well. It is just another option of Premium.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Ok, I believe that worked (I received a receipt for the $99 purchase), and I think the “mhncreative.com” domain is there now as opposed to w/ “.wordpress.com”…
