    Hi Sally,

Do you mind giving me a bit more information? I can see that you recently created higherpowereddotme.wordpress.com. Is this the blog in question?

    Thanks,

Yes I created higherpower.me. When it registered, the name came up with “dotme” added to the name. I didn’t type that in.
When I registered the domain, I choose to make a new blog. Should I have choosen the other option (added to current domain). I did pay for the $99 package. What I do want is higherpower.me. What do I need to do to change it to that?
    Thanks
    Sally

    Hi Sally,

I think I know what has happened. When you set up your account with us, you purchased the Value Bundle, which includes a free domain name purchase. Your WordPress address, the url to your site at WordPress.com was somehow set to higherpowereddotme.wordpress.com. However, you actually haven’t registered your custom domain yet — the higherpower.me domain.

So, what you’ll want to do is register that domain through us, and then map it to your WordPress address of higherpowereddotme.wordpress.com. In this way, whenever someone visits higherpowereddotme.wordpress.com is just automatically gets redirected to higherpower.me.

Does that make sense? The following articles do a great job of explaining this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

You can purchase your custom domain through your account Dashboard under Store > My Upgrades here:
    https://higherpowereddotme.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Please let me know if you have more questions and how I can help.

    Best,

That doesn’t sound like a great work around. The whole idea for purchasing the custom name was to have a custom name.
Can I just cancel all this and start again. I really want things to be perfect.
I’m sorry wordpress didn’t get it right. But why do I have to turn myself inside and out to fix it?

    Hi Sally,

Thanks for getting back in touch. I appreciate it. My previous message wasn’t actually a workaround; it is how WordPress handles the registration of domains. The domain mapping is the reason you are able to have a custom domain, like higherpower.me. Your WordPress url, higherpowereddotme.wordpress.com, is your default WordPress address and can be mapped to whichever custom domain you choose. You set up this default WordPress address when you created your account.

As I mentioned, you haven’t created a custom domain yet — that’s the higherpower.me address. If that is the custom domain you’d like, you can follow the detailed instructions outlined below in creating it and mapping it to your WordPress address:

    How Domains Work: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
How to Register Your Domain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/
