Domain Name Frustration

Hi! I am super frustrated. I spent a solid day researching the nest place to get a domain, hosting, email and theme to go with my new website. I am having someone build the site and don’t know much about how all this works. I have already spent $242 on my site for the year & can’t afford more…. then I go to just make sure my wordpress site has the domain I bought & it looks like I have to map my domain. The support says it is super cheap to add the domain mapping yet in actuality, and it says $13/yr… no problem, but then when I go to check out I learn I actually have to pay another $99 just to add my domain?!? I know it upgrades my plan but I am super frustrated. If this means I am going to have to spend $350 for my site for the year, then I am going to have to cancel everything & start all over. Please tell me there is a way around this?!

    Hello,

Let me see if I can help you out :)

I have already spent $242 on my site for the year & can’t afford more….

Which site have you purchased upgrades for? The site connected to the WordPress.com account you are logged in to is currently on the Free plan, so I just want to check which site you are referring to.

but then when I go to check out I learn I actually have to pay another $99 just to add my domain?!?

In order to map a domain you already own, you need a paid WordPress.com plan. The Premium plan is $99 but there is a cheaper plan — the Personal plan for $35.88. Once that plan is active, you can use the domain credit to map your domain.

If you let me know which site you are buying upgrades for, I’ll take a look at which plan might be best.

Come back to me if you have any questions.
