Domain Name issue

When setting up my account, I want my domain jibblegroup.com (currently on GoDaddy pointing to an Unbounce page placeholder) to point towards the new WP site we’ll be building. However it keeps giving me an error stating that the domain is already connected to a different WP site/account? Anyone know how I can find out which account and why? We’ve never connected the domain to any other WP account.

  • Hi there,

That domain is already mapped to the WordPress.com site, jibblegroup.wordpress.com. That mapping has been active since February.

I’m guessing someone else at your organisation created and upgraded that site, so I suggest you check internally who that was.

Hi, thanks a lot! Appreciate the pointer, it was actually still pointing to our Unbounce placeholder, I’ve removed the domain from Unbounce now but it still says the domain is already linked to a different WP website. Apart from removing it on Unbounce, I guess I need to remove the CNAME records in GoDaddy too before it reflects in WP?

  • No, the problem here is the existing mapping upgrade for the domain on our end. As long as that exists, no other account can add a mapping upgrade for the same domain.

So the account that added that mapping will have to cancel it.

Try resetting the password for the account jibblegroup at https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword, then check if anyone in your organisation received an email about that. That might help you find the individual who created that account and added that upgrade.
