Domain name problem.

My blog address is globalrowingclub.com. I got the domain name through WordPress. It has reverted to globalrowingclub.wordpress.com. I cannot figure out how to restore it and I need to right away. I received a notice that my private registration expired, but when I went to investigate what that meant, I was offered packages of features I did not need, and nothing specific to just renew the blog address. The help pages are just confusing me. Please fix this or give me specific instruction for how to do it myself. Thank you.

  • The domain name globalrowingclub.com expired over a month ago on November 4. Unfortunately your domain is in redemption as you didn’t renew it in time. You have three options for recovering an expired domain:

    1) Pay WordPress.com $97.00 to reactive the domain. This includes an annual subscription to the WordPress.com domain mapping and registration upgrades. We have no control over the additional cost as it is levied on us by our domain registrar.

    2) Go to http://pool.com/ register there and place the domain on backorder. As soon as the name becomes available Pool will try to get it for you. The domain would cost a minimum of $60 from there.

    3) Another alternative is to just wait, hope no one else buys it and get it again for $17.00.

If you want to be 100% sure of getting your domain back, you must use the first option. Please login to http://paypal.com/ and pay (email visible only to moderators and staff) US$97.00, and mark the payment “For renewal of domain: globalrowingclub.com” and reply to this email. We will contact our domain registrar who will reactive your domain within a few days, if not hours.

What is the redemption period? When will it be available again for $17? Why wasn’t I given the option to just renew the domain name when I tried to in October instead of only having much more expensive upgrade packages to choose from. Also, it wasn’t clear what was expiring. It seemed to be my “privacy” in whois from what I could gather from the email and the WordPress product page. It was not clear that it was my domain name, and again, I was not given the option to just renew the domain name no matter how many times I went round and round pushing buttons.

I would also like to move to WordPress.org with my original domain name. What is that going to entail?

  • You were given the option to renew the domain at any time, even up to 2 weeks after expiration. You also received an email about the expiration, one month, one week, and three days before expiration.

The domain will be passed to auction or awarded to back-order after the redemption period.

If it is not claimed, it will be released to the open market after about 90 days. We unfortunately have no control over this process.

This website is a donation website for a very worthwhile campaign. We are always looking for sponsors to help keep the vision alive for a large renewable energy project. There has been a misunderstanding about the domain name as explained above, and to spend $100 to get the domain name back is not the best use of the funds donated, which at this point is not enough to sustain us. In short, it would be a hardship amid too many other hardships. We are just trying to stay alive to do something to help the world.

Please ask the Happiness Bosses at WordPress if they would consider being a sponsor by donating the domain name back with a guided transfer to WordPress.org. We need a proper discussion board and to be able to use Google Analytics before we can really aggressively promote the website and campaign. It would be good press for WordPress.

I hope you will seriously consider this request. As things are now, we are crippled and dead in the water until this can be straightened out. Thank you.

    Merry Christmas.

  • I can ask, but can’t make any guarantees. The extra fee is not imposed by us.

Thank you. Maybe Santa will kick in the difference. :)

  • I have sent you an email with further details to the email address on your account.
