domain plan required?

  Hi! I recently made a new account to create a new website, but when I went to purchase a domain there was no option to purchase a domain without purchasing a plan? I have used the site many times in the past and you could always purchase a domain name without purchasing a plan. Is this a change or is their a way to separate the domain and the plan?

  You can no longer register or map a domain individually under new accounts with WordPress.com. Moving forward, domain subscriptions can be purchased as a part of one of our many plans here. This recent domains with plans only update was made as we continue to work diligently to provide the best WordPress.com experience for both users who choose to purchase a plan as well as those who choose the free plan.

  If you look over the plans that we offer and do not think they are the best fit, purchasing and setting up a self-hosted WordPress.org site through reliable hosts such as Flywheel, Siteground, Pressable, and Bluehost is also a great option.
