Domain Problems

    Hi there!

I am trying to create my webpage, and when I’m prompted for my domain, I choose that I already have one. I enter it, but it won’t seem to work. I know that my domain is still registered with GoDaddy and that it works. Is there something I’m missing when entering my domain? Would me using a tablet to do all of this be the reason I’m having these issues?

  • Hi there,

There’s currently a problem with adding mapping directly when you create a new site, so please select only the free *.wordpress.com domain on step 3 of the New Site process.

After you’ve created your site and added a plan, then go to My Site ->Domains and add your domain from there.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

Thank you for your help. I’ve been able to create my wordpress domain, however when I go to switch it to my personal domain I am being prompted to pay $129 in order to do so. It is my understanding that I am able to use my own domain and a site for free from WordPress, is that not correct?

  • Hosting here is free, and we provide the free *.wordpress.com address that you can use for as long as you want, but if you want to connect a custom domain you own somewhere else it’s a paid upgrade.

It sounds like you’re getting the Premium Plan added to your cart when you try to add the domain. If you’d prefer the cheaper Personal Plan, go to My Site ->Plans and add the plan there. Then go to My Site ->Domains afterwards to connect the domain. If you start by adding the domain Premium will be added by default.
