Domain question

  I already own a domain but is with google and my current website is through Live Edit which I do not believe is built on a WordPress platform. i am getting a new site built on WordPress platform. I just want to use WordPress right now to create sales page, etc. is this possible?

  Hi there,

  I’m not clear exactly what you’re asking. Are you asking if you can create a site with us using your domain, while the domain is also still showing your current site?

  If so, then no, but you create a subdomain on your domain, like site2.example.com, and connect that subdomain to a site here with us instead.

  If that’s not what you meant, can you please provide some more detail on what you’re trying to do?

  Do I have the option to get the DNS records that I can add without changing the name server? it will help me not get more confused and I am having a company create a whole new site created on WordPress platform soon. For now i just need to get some blogs out ASAP.

  Hi missheather40,

  Mapping a subdomain to WordPress.com involves creating a CNAME record through your domain registrar (Google). There is a sample email you can send them here:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/#mapping-a-subdomain-when-the-domain-is-registered-elsewhere

  The name servers don’t need to be changed when mapping a subdomain, they can continue pointing to the current/new site.
