Domain question from a newb
-
Hello all! I’m not experienced with building websites and am trying to teach myself, but am stumped on the best way forward with this issue. I just created a new website, hosted on WP. I’d like to remove the ‘.wordpress.com’ from the URL but I’m not sure if I have to delete the website and create a new one from scratch to do this! A web search reveals some complex instructions involving an FTP client. I’m totally stymied on that approach because the client cannot connect to the server and I’ve not a clue how to make it connect, as I don’t have the port # or know where to find it.
I currently pay for a BlueHost domain, for another WordPress site I’ve yet to launch… I want to link my newest website to this domain but I’m not sure how to go about it without deleting and starting over. Any help would be graciously accepted! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I assume you’re speaking of https://hivemindconsulting.wordpress.com/, as that’s the only site hosted on WordPress.com in your account, correct?
urblsm.com is a completely different site, using the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org, and hosted with Bluehost.
To use a domain you already own with the WordPress.com site you need to first upgrade that site to a paid plan. Then you can connect the domain to your site using our domain mapping upgrade.

FTP is used to upload of modify files directly on your server, and has nothing to do with connecting a domain. We don’t offer any FTP access on WordPress.com.
